Bottlenose Dolphin handcrafted in New Zealand from recycled copper.
Bottlenose dolphins are found throughout the world's oceans and usually live in large social groups. Compared with other dolphin populations in New Zealand, such as the dusky and Hectors dolphins, Bottlenoses are less abundant, are more isolated and have lower rates of reproduction.
Dolphins like all mammals, breathe air, give birth to live young, lactate and have a body temperature the same as that of humans. Bottlenose Dolphins can grow up to 3 metres in length and average 250kg, but can weigh up to 650kg. They eat 5-8kg of Squid and fish daily.
Bottlenose Dolphins can be highly social and active, and can travel at speeds of over 50km/h. They can dive to depths of 200-300 metres and remain submerged for up to 15 minutes.
